Champions League Twenty20 – Prince and Botha shine as Warriors win last-ball thriller

Daniel Vettori’s Bangalore posted a good total after being put in by Johan Botha, but Warrior’s pulled off a thriller as Wayne Parnell held his nerves to get them over the line on the last ball.

Tsotsobe removed Agarwal in the first over, but Chris Gayle started explosively hitting two fours and two sixes in his short stay. After his departure, the middle order continued the pace despite no one going on to make a half-century.

Late wickets meant Bangalore ended around 175 rather than 200. Virat Kohli and de Villiers made 34 and 31 respectively. Rusty Theron was the chief destroyer with 4 for 29.

In reply, Warriors started well as experiment to start with Gayle back fired. Ashwell Prince punished him with two sixes on the leg side. They lost three quick wickets, but Prince was going uninhibited showing his prowess to bat well in T20 form the game.


At 82 for 4 in the 12th over, with match in the balance, Johan Botha joined him and wasted no time in settling in. They needed 36 runs from the last 3 overs, and a thriller was on cards. Botha carted Gayle for two huge sixes to turn the match in his team’s favour.

Although Warriors lost two wickets in the penultimate over bowled by Mithun, Nicky Boje hi six on the last ball to make it just 7 from the last over. Sreenath Aravind bowled three dots including wicket of Botha and put his team in front with still 7 required off the last three balls.

Parnell hit the 5th ball for four and the last for a couple to seal the win and mark wild celebrations lead in the dug out. Prince’s 74 off 55 balls that included 5 fours and a six made him worthy Man of the Match winner.

Warriors 172/8 (Kohli 34, Theron 4/29) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 171/7 (Prince 74, Botha 42; Mithun 2/25) by 3 wickets
